Update your information

July 3rd, 2008

Directory PostcardLambda Chi Alpha Directory PostcardMany of you have already received this postcard which asks you to call a 1-800 number to update your information with Lambda Chi Alpha Headquarters. This is a legitimate request, on behalf of our Fraternity. There will be a Centennial Edition of the Alumni Directory published in 2009. When you call the 800 number, you will be asked to give as much or as little information you would like to have printed. From your name, graduation year, profession, marital status, email, etc. Afterward, the customer service representative will ask you if you want to purchase a Lambda Chi Alpha directory (which will arrive in February of 2009). The cost for a hardcover edition is $90, softcover is $70 and a cd-rom version is $40 (? I think). You are not obligated to purchase any of the items to have your information included.

If you do purchase a bound directory, you will be pleased to find a (40 page?) History of Lambda Chi Alpha included inside the book. Lambda Chi Alpha does receive a portion of the money generated from the sale of the directory.

Please make the quick phone call today and update your information.

July 3rd, 2008

Here are the results of our first poll, which asked the question: Would you attend Homecoming 2008 if there is a Lambda Chi Alpha event planned?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer. I will bring this up to the Alumni Association Officers and see what might happen. If anyone is interested in helping organize a get-together, please email or comment to this post.

Chi Delta Rho Founders

June 25th, 2008

Chi Delta Rho Fraternity was organized and founded at Central State College (now UW-Stevens Point). Here are the names of 5 of the 9 Founders of Chi Delta Rho Fraternity (Alpha Chapter):

Douglas Robertson (the first President)
Raymond Boyer (the first Vice President)
Jack Frost (the first Secretary)
Weldon Leahy (the first Treasurer)
Elmer Larson

It is also appears that the first 2 pledges of Chi Delta Rho (February 1931) were considered Charter Members, they are:

Edward Luethold
John Murat

There are 2 others yet to discover. Any information on these men is appreciated….my research with UW-Stevens Point continues.

Where it all began - 22 Joy Street, Boston, MA

June 25th, 2008

22 Joy Street

Through the magic of technology (Google Maps Streetview & PhotoShop) I have pieced together this panorama of 22 Joy Street in Boston, MA.

Lambda Chi Alpha was founded on November 2, 1909 when Warren A. Cole, Percival C. Morse, and Clyde K. Nichols met at 22 Joy St., Boston, and swore allegiance to the new fraternity.

Lambda Chi Alpha website crashed?

June 24th, 2008

Lambda Chi Alpha Headquarters website crash?Anyone seen the Lambda Chi Alpha headquarters website? It’s faded to black with just a Coat of Arms on the site…what’s up with that?

Keep checking the site what they are up to!

Delta Kappa original badge

June 23rd, 2008

Tri-Kappa BadgeOur Delta Kappa Brothers may be interested in this post. I have recently acquired what I believe to be an original Delta Kappa member badge, from when the fraternity was known as Tri-Kappa, or Kappa Kappa Kappa (Founded in 1920). Remember, Tri-Kappa changed their name to Delta Kappa because of the inaccurate and unwarranted association with the Ku Klux Klan.

As you can see from the image, the triangular badge is surrounded by 9 seed pearls…3 on each side. Each set flanked by a red stone (ruby?) and one red stone in the center (7 total). There are three 5-pointed stars in the form of a delta surrounding the badge.

The badge comes from an original owner in the North-east, where Tri-Kappa was founded and there is still one surviving Chapter at Ithaca.

Our Houses, Then & Now

June 18th, 2008

50 years ago, our Delta Kappa Brothers lived in this house…

Delta Kappa House - 1959

But I am unable to find an address or discern its location in Whitewater. Anyone with knowledge of this location (generally or specifically) is encouraged to post a comment or email.

Info Leak: Cross & Crescent Alumni features

June 16th, 2008

The Cross & Crescent is released on the 2nd of every month. Here are some of the upcoming features:

July 2008 - A tribute to all of our Brothers who are members of the armed forces. (*note: I have been given the honor of illustrating the cover for this issue, keep an eye out for that!)

Future issues could possibly have features on famous Alumni Members Will Forte and Tito Santana.

Will ForteWill Forte (UCLA) of Saturday Night Live is slated to be featured in an upcoming issue of the Cross & Crescent. I posted an article back in April about Will upon hearing the news from the C&C Staff. Looks like that feature will be coming soon to the Cross & Crescent. Will is currently filming a movie. Although I am not sure which, as the Internet Movie Database lists both A Good Old Fashioned Orgy and The Slammin’ Salmon as both being filmed, under his bio. This interview will be a can’t miss! Lots of exciting news from Brother Forte!

Tito SantanaAlso, Tito Santana (West Texas State University), Professional Wrestling Legend is on the short list to be featured in the Cross & Crescent as well. Actually, until yesterday when I found out about the potential interview in the C&C, I was unaware that Tito Santana was a Chopper! What a great addition to our list of Famous Alumni! I will be looking forward to reading this interview, as I grew up on 80’s-90’s wrestling! Tito Santana was always a great sportsman and competitor…he embodied the essence of the purity of the sport!

Chi Delta Rho Official Badge

June 16th, 2008

Chi Delta Rho BadgeI have found an image of the Official Badge of Chi Delta Rho. The badge appears to be an inverted fleur de lee which has the letters Chi Delta Rho in the center. The shape is then outlined by 16 pearls and has a different stone at the nadir (opposite of apex). I would assume the stone to be blue sapphire, as Chi Delta Rho’s colors were Blue and White (the 1st Generation of Chi Delta Rho, as described by the materials from The Central State Teachers College newspaper, The Pointer). The badge is topped by a crown of a King.

The image to the left was scanned from the 1935 issuing of the Central State Teachers College yearbook, The Iris.

If anyone has a Chi Delta Rho Badge and is interested in parting with it, please comment here, I would be very interested in it.

Happy Father’s Day

June 15th, 2008

Wanted: Great Men to join Lambda Chi Alpha

June 13th, 2008

Lambda Chi Alpha: Lambda-Iota Zeta

Dedicated Alumni,
Recruitment for the Chapter will start this fall and we are looking for names of men that you, our Alumni, feel would be great additions to our Brotherhood!

Do you have a son, nephew, grandson, or brother that is attending UW-Whitewater? Please email with the names of men we should contact.

Perhaps you have a friend or a neighbor who has a relative who is attending Whitewater and would be interested in joining Lambda Chi Alpha…again, please contact and we will help facilitate a meeting with Lambda Chi Alpha recruiters.

As an Alumni of Lambda Chi Alpha you know that Lambda Chi Alpha outlawed the archaic practice of pledging in the 70’s and has since led the way in Membership Programs and Philanthropic initiatives. When a man joins Lambda Chi Alpha, he joins a Brotherhood that is almost 100 Years old and has over 250,000 members world-wide! Our Brothers have found the advantages of Business and Social Networking through Lambda Chi, as well as a life-long committment to Justice, Patriotism, Education and Charity. Help us bring more good men into our Bond of Lambda Chi Alpha. Email today!

Info Leak: Lambda Chi Alpha website re-design

June 12th, 2008

You heard it here first, that the National Lambda Chi Alpha website is getting a re-design.

Now, I have an image to share with you, on the potential look & feel of the new site.

Lambda Chi Alpha website concept

This may not be the exact look & feel, but it is the direction that HQ was interested in moving towards. You will notice that important information is a lot easier to access through “tabbed browsing” at the top of the page and in the lower portion of the page. Cross & Crescent articles will be featured on the homepage (the image shown is from the May Issue) and will link to those stories on CrossAndCrescent.com

My sources tell me the goal is to have the new site launched by General Assembly (July 17, 2008).

Also, the staff at HQ is working overtime pumping out newly designed Paedagogus, Officer Manuals, and a Directory. Oh yes, they also produce the Cross & Crescent every month. Big props to Tad, Chris and the rest of the people who make these things appear seamless!

Chi Delta Rho - Alpha Chapter History

June 10th, 2008

Chi Delta Rho - Alpha Chapter HistoryIn my quest to assemble an accurate history of our Chapter in Whitewater, I continue to seek the beginnings of Chi Delta Rho Fraternity. It has led me to The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (formerly Central State Teachers’ College). In their archives I found this clipping which details the formation of Chi Delta Rho as a Fraternity, as this is the Alpha Chapter of Chi Delta Rho (UW-Whitewater being the Beta Chapter, Milton College was Gamma, etc).

***Click the newspaper clipping on the left to see a larger version, for easier reading.

Enjoy this clipping (if you have trouble reading it, leave a comment and I will transcribe it onto the site). Many thanks to the UW-Stevens Point Archival Department.
